"How much does it cost?"

  I charge $10. per hour for my hands on work plus materials. An exact estimate can only be determined on a case by case basis .  Each image is unique so I will give you an estimate when I see your image and am informed of what change or changes you want done.

   Many small jobs that take an hour or less like removing red-eye, adjusting color, sharpening, cropping, minor touch-ups, color-to-b&w, borders or frames, etc. start at $10.

 Major restorations that take several hours to complete can cost over $100. is some cases.

  Most  restorations and retouch projects that I get requests for average about $10-$40 based on the time involved.

  Simply E-mail or send your photograph and I will  give you a free estimate.

"What file format should I send?"

   I prefer a format that offers the best possible image quality.    Generally, send  the largest file size you have.

   Uncompressed files in RAW or TIF formats are large and of high quality.  TIF or TIFF and JPG or JPEG  offer high-quality compression with minimal loss in quality.

   GIF and BMP (Bitmap) files have considerable loss in quality .

  To create a high quality print the image should be scanned at 300- 600 dpi .

~~~~~~~
"How do I scan my photos?"
   Short of buying a scanner, the best thing to do is go to your local photo lab or FedEx Kinkos.  Tell them the print size you want to get out of it.  Usually, if you want to print at the original size then 300dpi is adequate .
 If you want me to double the size (say from 4X6 to 8X10) you should scan it at least 600dpi.  Remember that if you are scanning a slide then you will need a very powerful scanner to get adequate resolution to make prints.
  Besides resolution, the dynamic range of a scanner is very important.  This refers to how well a scanner detects details throughout the tonal range of a photograph.  A dynamic range of 4.2 and above is quite good, with 4.8 being outstanding.
" What happens to my original Photo? "
  When you send an original photo for retouching or restoration After I scan your image I immediately package it for it's safe return. Than on the next business day I  send  it back to you.
~Please read my packing directions carefully~
~~~~~~~

"Do you alter the originals?"

No.

    My retouching services are done digitally, your original will be scanned and  returned to you unmodified.

~~~~~~~
"My photos have mold & stains.
 Can you restore these? "
   Yes. In most cases...
  These photos can be restored especially if most of the damage is only to the edges or background. But if there is excessive damage to important detailed areas such as faces it can be very difficult if not impossible.
~~~~~~~

 "Can I send you photos in frames?"

Yes, but I prefer the owner to do it as  sometimes photos adhere to the glass and can cause further damage by removing them.

 For best results the photograph will need to be taken out of the frame for restoration but if  it cannot be removed without further damage, then I will to scan in the most accurate fashion possible.

~~~~~~~
"How do I place an order?"
You can order 2 ways:
Send original print or CD in a *photo mailer to;
Desert Hues Photography
C/O JoAnne  Whitcomb  (Downing)
PO BOX 546
Salome Arizona
85348
You also may e-mail your
scanned photo to;
deserthuesphotography@tds.net
   *Photo Mailers are appropriate packaging for  photos. . .
   Sandwich your photo carefully between two pieces of thick cardboard (the edges of the cardboard should extend at least 1 inch beyond the photo.
Tape the cardboard together on its edges then place in an appropriate express mailer
6. How long does it take to complete my order?
     It depends on the project but make every effort to complete orders  as soon as I possibly can. . .
   A simple business card order can be completed start to finish within a few hours and in the mail the next business day after your approval.
  A restoration photo that has moderate damage I can usually be completed within a week during most of the year. (The closer it is to a holiday, the longer it may take.)
  Restoration or special effect projects can take several days to finish because I can't always complete the project from start to finish in one day as I am only available to work on my projects in the evenings. Excessive restoration can take 3 to 6 hours or more from start to finish.
~~~~~~~

"Do you ship your work overseas?"

No. All of the work I am sent is done right here by me alone - original files and photos stay with me until they are sent back to the customer.

~~~~~~~
 "Can I see the results of the
 restoration before the prints are made?"
Yes!  And I insist upon it!  I will e-mail a low resolution copy or post it on my "Customers View Page".
 After the customer reviews the finished project if more changes aren't needed and the customer is satisfied I proceed with e-mailing a high resolution file and/or order prints or copy to a CD.
